Euthanasia is the practice of deliberately killing an individual in a bid to spare the person
from dealing with more suffering and pain. I feel euthanasia as a controversial issue due to its
moral and ethical components involved. In this essay I will discuss arguments against the
practice of Euthanasia.
This practice is clearly against the Hippocratic Oath which all health professionals must
fulfil. This oath clearly states that health professionals notably doctors should never be involved
in the killing of people. After all, they are trained to save people from diseases and injuries.
Doctors are entrusted with people’s lives whenever they have health problems. Therefore they
must try what they can to help individuals to live and enjoy their lives. If patients die under their
supervision, it is acceptable if the doctors had tried all their best and tried all the possibilities to
ensure the patients survive. It is understandable that there are other cases where the disease or the
injury of the patient becomes serious, and the doctors are unable to treat. In such cases, it will not
be fair to blame the doctors for the death of the patients. The Hippocratic Oath enables doctors to
know how their responsibility is when it comes to people health. This oath is crucial is assuring
people that they can trust their doctors in dealing with their health problems. If euthanasia is
legalized, then I feel that the effectiveness of the Hippocratic Oath will be negated and the
doctors will be resorting immediately to euthanasia especially for tricky cases instead of trying
their best.
My other argument against the practice of euthanasia is that it is considered homicide
since the doctor kills the patients even after approval from the patient or their families. Many
critics agree that euthanasia is same as murder since it involves killing. The only difference

though is that in euthanasia there is mercy and consent. If murder is not allowed since people
take matters into their own hands and kill, euthanasia should also be banned since doctors will
take matters into their own hands and kill patients when there is consent from the patients and
their families.
Finally, I think that the advancements of technology and innovations in the fields of
medicine and health care can make the practice of euthanasia illogical. Medical experts continue
to strive harder to develop improved medical technologies and treatment methods in a bid to
ensure sick people recover faster. Therefore, doctors should not have the excuse of not trying
their best for their patients since they have access to the best treatment methods, medical
technologies that can be used instead of resorting to euthanasia as the only option.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that the practice of euthanasia ought to be banned based
on the above arguments. Euthanasia does not deserve any place in our society. Health
professionals notably doctors should never give up on their patients regardless of how hopeless
the situation is. Doctors should exhaust all other options of palliative care to give their patients a
fighting chance to survive.
