Not recognizing the employees
Failure to recognize employees for their undertakings demoralizes them. Bad leaders will only criticize employees for the shortcomings but never accept them for any of their accomplishments. As a result, employees never feel appreciated for their efforts and are in constant fear of being fired if they make a mistake. The same applies during times of pandemic when the employees have to work from home. Their efforts are unappreciated and many of them are facing a pay cut.
Running unnecessary online meetings
During the pandemic, the employees work from home. Then there is the need for most managers to delegate duties. Then instead of the manager only directing those whose areas of responsibility will discuss, the manager orders that every employer needs to avail themselves for the meeting. This forces other members of the staff to stop their work to attend such an online conference that should otherwise belong to the few whose departments need attention. Further, distractions caused by such reduces their focus and hence decreasing the productivity of the company.
Instilling fear on employees
Bad leadership could cause a threat to a worker’s job safety whenever an employee senses imminent dismissal, rumors spread through the workplace. Some workers, instead of working hard for the company, will opt to use working time at home to search for new jobs elsewhere; and even those who will not, their morale will diminish. Important to note is that employers who instill panic on employees mostly withhold important information from them and only answer them in a noncommittal manner. They are never approachable, and this makes it very difficult for employees to reach out to them through calls whenever there is a problem with the work they tasked to handle from home.
In conclusion, the study looks at the unethical behaviors of some leaders that need to change. The leaders need to embrace Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. According to this theory, people derive motivation from the fulfillment of their requirements. From the study, to work efficiently during the pandemic, they need assurance that their jobs are secure, they are free to talk to their employers, and they don’t have to do online meeting if the plan does not touch on their duties.
