As an HR professional, one of the problems that many companies face is the lack of
diversity and inclusion of some employees based on sexual orientation, race, tribe, nationality,
and language spoken. Diversity is critical for all organizations as it helps them in reaching out to
many clients (Baráth et al., 2017). Companies that put drastic measures in place to ensure there
are diversity and inclusion assist in promoting equality and avoid discrimination in the
workplace. The diversification of the workplace is never easy as companies are typically faced
with various barriers when they try to address the issue (Mor-Barak & SAGE Publishing, 2014).
Some of the barriers that I have noticed as an HR professional to diversity and inclusion in
today’s organizations include lack of employee involvement, cultural and language differences,
and lack of funding.
According to Mor-Barak and SAGE Publishing (2014), organizations hire different
employees in various departments to help them in handling the tasks at hand. This means that the
performance of the company will be dependent on how the employees work. Organizations in
which employees work as a team tend to post stellar results as compared to those that have no
teamwork. Different countries and continents have diverse cultural and business practices. It is
thus critical for the organizations to help in creating a conducive environment for all the
employees by training them and offering them with a supportive environment.
We live in the globalization era, whereby companies are spreading towards other
continents (Baráth et al., 2017; Mor-Barak & SAGE Publishing, 2014). Such companies have
had to hire personnel from various nationalities to help them in handling some tasks. Hiring
workers from different countries is a tall order as they speak different languages and have
diverse cultural practices. This has caused differences between co-workers who do not
understand the culture and language of their colleagues. As an HR professional, it is essential to

educate the workers on this and implement the use of a universal language like English or French
while in the office.
