The thesis of this article represents the collaborations which are described by the engagements in
the community. Through the process of engagement, there is the possibility of the faith that is
manifested in their tangible forms. The involvement of the population in the whole process is so
that these programs can be useful. Through the engagement projects in the city, the students can
appreciate the design as being transformative and an effective means of allocating the resources
in the town for the benefit of humanity.
In an attempt to explain his theses, the author gives several illustrations. The author says that in
as much as the community engagement projects require more doggedness and resiliency from the
students and the community, yet they are very much meaningful and they have longer impacts on
the projects which are not engaged in the process.
From the reading, there are notable quotes which are inspirational, and the first one is; “In these
situations, the structural and the tactical issues which have an impact on the community –
engaged learning are recognized readily and discussed within the academy, creating a supportive
environment for the development of community engagement philosophy.” The other quote is,
“Citing difficulties in gathering, quantifying, and assessing data indicates that the community-
based struggle truly engages the real collaborators.”
This article has important applications in the outside of the context of a discussion. The solutions
to the difficulties in gathering data can be applied in the other research exercises. The principles
of successful design engagement are equally useful in the other areas of life.
This article does not exhaust the thesis as stated in the beginning. It is not very specific of how
the objectives stated in the design development can be achieved.
