The cases of child abuse and neglect have increased in the world today in such a way that people
do not take the lives of children seriously. The children are the hope of the future hence any
violation that makes them not to grow in the right ways tends to affect their future lives. The
people in the society including the physicians and the healthcare givers have a significant role to
play as far as ensuring that the children are taken care of by the parents and are not abused in any
way by the adults in the society. Some parents tend to neglect their children by letting only one
parent to take care of the child despite the fact that both parents are alive. This paper is a
strategic plan that will give guidelines on how the physicians and the other healthcare givers will
reduce the cases of child abuse and child neglect for the benefit of the children and the society as
a whole. It specifically focuses on how antenatal and the infancy home visits will prevent the
wrongs that are committed against the children in the society. There are gaps in knowledge
about how antenatal and infancy child visits can influence the effective care of the children. This
paper therefore seeks to address this gap as a ways of creating awareness on the importance of
taking care of the children.
Prevalence of child neglect and child abuse in American and the other countries
Surveys that address the cases of child abuse have been done in 19 countries inclusive of
the United States of America as well as Canada. The research also included 10 probability
samples. The studies indicate that in all the countries that were assessed, the female children are
likely to be abused compared to the male children. Methodological and definition differences
have led to fewer comparisons of the cases of child abuse that were recorded in various
countries. Most of the abused female children face the cases of sexual harassment and sexual
abuse which calls for more efforts to be set up in order to protect the female children from the
dangers that they are likely to face in their lives. According to Gilbert et al., (2009), Child
maltreatment is one of the biggest issue in the world today. The authors note that 4-16% of the
children are physical abused and one out of ten children is neglected by the people who are
supposed to take care of him or her. The authors also note the fact that between 5% to 10% of the
girls and around 5% of the boys are subjected to penetrative sexual abuse during one or several
points in their childhood. The statistics are shocking because they show the extent to which the
lives of the children are impacted by the action of not taking care of them properly. A small
number of the children are exposed to two or more risks. There are children who are neglected
and at the same time they face the cases of abuse from the strangers. It therefore means that child
neglect exposes them to many risks that in turn affect their lives negatively. There are cases
where the children are abused by their parents though the statistics are scanty due to the fact that
the cases go unreported because the child is afraid of implicating the children. There are also
cases where the children are abused by the close relatives like sisters and brothers as well as the
cousins. It therefore shows that not all the people should be trusted by the children no matter the
relationship that they have.
Monetary costs that are associated with child neglect
There are few empirical costs that come up as a result of child abuse and neglect. However,
consistent data that can be used for both national and statewide analysis are clearly lacking.
There is need to have accurate estimates of the impact that the child abuse and neglect causes to
the children so that the society may have a full understanding of the damage created. One of the
greatest expense that the government has to incur that is related to child abuse is the increase it
the Medicaid expenses that the government has to incur as a way of ensuring that the neglected
children get better facilities and medical care. The government of the United States of America
spends approximately $2600 more on the health of the children and the extra cost is attributed to
the cases of child neglect within the country. 9% of the Medicaid expenses for the children are
attributed to the neglected children in the society. It therefore means that the mistreatment of the
children places a Medicaid burden to the government and the government in turn puts the burden
onto the shoulders of the taxpayers in the country. The costs can be reduced if the government
invests more in the preventive strategies aimed at scaling down the number of the cases of child
abuse and neglect. Children are also at risk of getting sick when they do not have people to take
good care of then. They are not able to protect themselves from the diseases that can easily be
avoided. Children need direction on what to do and what not to do, which explains why the
children need to be closely monitored so that they enjoy their lived in the society (Florence,
Brown, Fang, & Thompson, 2013).
Advance practice roles and management strategies that affect change at the community
One of the best ways to ensure that the cases of child neglect are dealt with is by making
the parents to love their children. This can be done through the prenatal sessions as well as the
infant visitation. In case the parents are able to show love to their children, then the cases of child
neglect will decrease. During the visits the pediatrician may inform the parents on the
importance of being closer to their children (McGuigan, 2018).
Key community and social resources that negatively and positively affect the issue
Some of the people who are working do not have time for their children as a result of
spending too much time in the workplace. On the other hand the lack of financial resources may
make an individual not to take care of his or her responsibilities as a parent. The presence of
several important events such as family fun days play a huge role in ensuring that the people take
good care of their children.
Changes or enhancements in community-related services that are used to deal with child
neglect in the society.
The community has come up with several services that are aimed at taking good care of
the children for the benefit of the society. There are various organizations that come up with
ways of ensuring that they bring the family together and in so doing, they prevent the cases of
child neglect. The events include family fun days as well as organizing events where the parents
are supposed to attend with their children.
A strategic plan that could decrease the prevalence of your selected topic
The first step is finding out the real cause of the parents neglecting their children. The
second step is to find out the activities that will bring the parents and the children closer in the
society. An investment is then done with regards to the issue to ensure that such events are
attended by families. The school system of the country needs to include a topic on parenting that
will prepare the students for the life of parenthood. The most important one is to ensure that the
couple goes for antenatal together so that they understand the importance of parenting. The
prenatal and the post natal counseling will also play an important role in preventing the child
neglect. The goals include increasing the bond between the parents and the children, to increase
the engagement between the parents and the children. The whole society will also be sensitized
on the need to take care of the children and protecting them from the cases of abuse.
The two goals to be achieved include improving the relationship between the parents. The
second goal is to increase the engagement between the parents and the children. The third goal is
to ensure that the children are safe from abuse. The society is therefore expected to have a good
relationship between the children and parents which make them not to neglect them. The
campaign will help in the protection of the children from sexual abuse.
