Origin of Easter
Subtitle: An Art Exhibition by Esteban and Thalia de la Vega
Saturday nights before Easter is exciting as the kids, and the adults face the day. Both
of these falls asleep as they dream of the day. However, the most important possible question
that one could ask them is how a symbol of cotton-tailored and non – egg-laying hare became
a symbol of a holiday like this one. There were a group of Rabbits who were determined to
know how the hen lives and how the eggs turn out to be eggs. It is something that kept
troubling them for a long time, and so they decided to one day try it out and understand the
mystery behind the egg turning out to be a living hen.
There was also a little girl who picked an egg which was loosely put and was almost
falling. The little girl offered a prayer so that the egg could not fall from her hand. The god to
whom the girl prayed appeared before her like a rainbow, and the egg did not break.
However, it was freezing, and the egg would not have a life after a short while, and when the
girl realized this, she asked the god for help, and the god turned the egg into a hare. The god
then told the little girl that the hare would be coming back once in a while to bring the
There is also another explanation that can illustrate the subject matter of this
discussion. There was once a team of individuals who lived in a village. These were farmers,
and they depended much on rain to see that their activities run through successfully. There
came a year when drought struck the area, and it was not very easy to carry out cultivation,
and many people relocated to places where there were water and food. There was a farmer
who had a lot of cattle, and he sent his herdsmen to look throughout the land and find where
there is water.
After a long search in the forest, they came to a place where there was water, and they
decided to live there and take their baths and other activities there. Daily, the farmer together
with his herd of cattle and the herdsmen would move to the river and would not mind the
small rabbits that were on the ground. Every day the rabbits would be injured, and some of
them would even succumb to death. As they become lesser, they thought and concluded that
they needed to do something urgently.
After a consultation, the rabbits agreed that they need to let the farmer understand that
they are causing much harm to the family of the rabbits. After some deliberation, they
decided that the smallest rabbit would go and communicate with the farmer so that they
would not be hurt anymore. The following day, the little rabbit timed as the herd was
approaching the lake and hid under a rock so that it could not be destroyed by the crowd of
animals and the flock. As the farmer came closer, the little rabbit went to meet him.
The rabbit told the farmer that the lake where they got water from belonged to the
moon and as a result of the injury that they were causing to the family of the rabbits the moon
was not happy and therefore wanted an urgent meeting with the farmer. Upon reaching the
lake, the moon reflected in the water, and when the first animal stepped in the water, it shook
and so did the moon that was reflected in the water. The rabbit interpreted that as a sign of
anger that the moon was showing as a result of the mistreatment that the man and his animals
were causing to the rabbits.
The man, therefore, asked the rabbit what he and his herdsmen could do so that they
appease the moon. The rabbit quickly thought and told the man that he could take them to his
home so that he treats them like any of the other animals so that they could make friendships
with the other animals. And following the belief that the little girl’s egg turned into a rabbit,
the man reached home and put the rabbits around an egg to appease the gods and attract
fortune to his family and his people.
