This chapter talks about an evaluation known as post- occupancy evaluation, commonly known as POE. The evaluation is about a way in which the environment can be modified so as to reduce eye strain among people, especially those with optic problems. To conduct this evaluation, it is very important to understand the health condition of the person or people in that environment. Symptom manifestation should also be monitored. By doing this, the problem is clearly understood, and that means future problems are automatically erased, because precaution has already been taken. It also enables the researcher to understand the condition clearly and have a chance to study symptom manifestation. By doing this, the symptoms are known, and there will be a way to treat those symptoms so that they do not affect the person negatively. It will also help in modifying the environment again to avoid those symptoms in the first place. The evaluation also leads to understanding of the client and the existing environment. By so doing, the study will determine the best environment to subject the client into. By studying the client, a lot of things are learnt such as what the client is allergic to, and what kind of environment brings negative effects. The evaluation will also aid in understanding how a specific design can affect the environment. Different designs are developed for different visual impairments. Therefore, the main goal of the evaluation is to come up with the best design, one which will maximize the clients’ ability to perform or do all the tasks that he/she has planned to perform. An evaluation can be manifested in very different ways, and it is important for a person conducting it to be open minded and to accommodate all possibilities.
