The film titled Hearts and Minds was made in the year 1974 about the Vietnam war and was
directed by Peter Davis. The director notes that success is dependent on the hearts and the minds
of the people who are living out there. The movie, therefore, gives the perspective of success that
he wants the people in society to understand. He, therefore, notes that the people who are out
there are the ones who have the ability to determining whether success has been attained or not.
The film addresses the cause of conflict and the issues that aggravated the war that took place in
Vietnam. The main theme addressed in the film is the beginning and the prolonging of the
bloody conflict as caused by self-righteous militarism. The knowledge that has been presented in
the story is important because it directs the people who want peace on what they are supposed to
do as a way of avoiding the conflicts that many people face in the society that makes them go up
in arms in bloody battles and wars.
The director also addresses the effects of wars on the people
in the society noting the main issues that led to the war in Vietnam. The knowledge is important
to us because it gives us insights into how we are supposed to ensure that there is peace in the
lives of the people. The film also addresses the basic humanity of the people that the united states
of America tried to dismiss (Hearts and Minds 1974 HD – legendado (BR), 2015).
The Weight of Memory (March 1973 – Onward) is also an important film with valuable lessons
that have been provided in the curriculum. The movie shows the important role that the military
forces play not only in stopping the wars but also in the cases where the search for reconciliation
is needed. The movie plays an important role in educating the people in the society about the
need for peace in society and addresses the negative effects of the wars and how it affects the
lives of the people. The movie shows the importance of a leader getting out of office when he or
she underperforms. For instance, President Richard Nickson resigns as civil wars going on in
society. It, therefore, shows the importance of leadership of a given jurisdiction in promoting
peace as well as improving the lives of the people in the society (Vietnam War PBS Episode 10:
The Weight of Memory (March 1973-Onward), 2018).
The paper by Will Steirer (1976) talks about what is addressed in the movie titled Hearts and
Minds by Bert Schneider and Peter Davis. The author notes the fact there is a similarity between
films and the other media representation and that is that they do not have an adequate teaching
guide. The paper talks about propaganda and the propagandist nature of the films and how the
students may decide not to follow the propaganda. The paper shows the extent of propaganda in
the society that has been portrayed by the movies. Various propaganda changes the lives of the
people and has to be dealt with accordingly (Steirer, Schneider, & Davis, 1976).
The paper that was written by the same author in the year (1975) also bears the same name
addresses the effect of wars in the lives of the people in the society and the factors that lead to
the wars that are experienced in Vietnam. I am therefore able to apply the information and ensure
that I am able to live a peaceful and quiet life with the other people in the society. The films and
the sources that have therefore provided very important information that will not only help in the
learning process but also will help in the general life as a whole. It therefore means that a
successful learning process is the one which the learners are able to practice the contents in their
day to day lives(Steirer, Schneider, & Davis, 1976). .
