How Kim Jong-un is bad for North Korea
Introduction
Kim Jong-un is the president of North Korea who has served as the supreme leader in the country since the year 2011. He also served as a leader of the Worker’s Party of Korea since 2012. He was ranked as the 46th most powerful person in the world by the Forbes magazine in the year 2013. The new outlets in North Korea reported that Kim Jong Un had ordered the execution of his uncle Jang Song-thaek due to “treachery” (North Korea News,” 2016). Kim was elected unopposed to the Supreme People’s Assembly and is believed to have planned the assassination of his half-brother. Ever since he took over power in North Korea as the president of the country, he has faced tense relationships with the other countries especially the president of the United States of America.
How Kim Jong-un is bad for North Korea
First of all, Kim Jong-un has led the country into having many enemies under his rule as the president. One of the most tainted relationships is between him and the president of the United States of America Donald trump. The strained relationship has seen the country facing several sanctions. The sanctions that are placed in the country are working to the detriment of the citizens of the country meaning that the actions that the president takes on behalf of the citizens of the country have a direct influence on the lives of the people in the country. The president in a given country should not lead to the imposition of the financial sanctions to the country since it affects the citizens directly.
Kim Jong-un’s rule is dictatorial and military like which is not a good way to serve the people in the country. The dictatorship tendencies by the president mean that the interests of those in the government are well taken care of but those of the citizens are not because the government does not listen to the plight of the people as they carry out their rule in the country. It, therefore, means that Kim Jong-un is not the type of president that the people may be fond of or may desire his rule. Some of the institutions in the country such as the prisons are in a deplorable state meaning that the government led by Kim Jong-un does not adequately care about the needs of the prisoners in the country. The leaders in a particular country should be ready to ensure that the prisoners are taken care of despite her fact that they committed atrocities in order to be found in the prisons. Kim Jong-un may not be directly involved in what happens to the prisoners in the country but he has a role to play in ensuring that all the people in the country enjoy their stay despite their status in the society. Kim Jong-un has therefore failed in representing all the people in the country (Bechtol, 2014).
Another reason why Kim Jong-un is not a good leader in North Korea is the fact that he participates in the making as well as the use of the Atomic weapons. He is not always ready to listen to what the other countries have to say and does not pay attention to the displeasures that are presented by the people in the country. The international community has been on the forefront to ensure that they deal with Kim Jong-un and ensure that his rule is good in the society as opposed to the cases where the government is sitting pretty when many people in North Korea are facing a hard time living in the given country (Bechtol, 2014).
The nuclear program that North Korea is having has detrimental effects in the world. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Kim announced a policy of co-developing the country’s economic and nuclear weapons program in April 2013. The policies have led to the country manufacturing the intermediate as well as the long-range ballistic missiles as well as conducting tests in such a way that the lives of the people in the country, as well as the whole world, find themselves in danger within the country. The international rule is against the formation and testing of the nuclear-powered weapons due to the bad effects that it has in the lives of the people. Kim’s regime has defied the rule that has been put in the world prohibiting the formation of the nuclear weapons and in so doing, the donors have put sanctions into the country (Bechtol, 2014).
In the recent months, the president of the United States of America has made some attempts to have the Kim withdraw his nuclear and abandon it completely. President Donald Trump has failed on numerous occasions as a result of the stubbiness of the president of North Korea. The White House announced on May 10 that a summit between Trump and Kim would take place June 12 in Singapore. The president managed to put a deal on the table that could help in ending the problem once and for all. However, the diplomatic peace that was being experienced between the United States of America and North Korea was short-lived as Kim threatened to pull out of the summit that could help in resolving the issues by giving out fiery threats. Trump responded by calling off the summit and he communicated it using a well signed official letter. Kim then saw that all is not well and he sent a letter to Donald Trump addressing the issue. The meeting between the two presidents was rescheduled with Kim accepting to meet Trump. Kim is, therefore, a president who is keen in satisfying his ego and pride at the expense of the people in the country. It is important for him to fix the issues that make him be good with qualities which many people may desire and enjoy as they live in the society in general (Bechtol, 2014).
