RE: Paula Harris – Case and Statutory Law Analysis
Officer Preston should be sued
In the accident, it is important to understand the driver who was at fault at that time. Officer
Preston should be sued for causing an accident. If he was in an emergency then he could have
switched on the siren on the police car as a way of alerting the other drivers that he had an
emergency to attend to. The fact that he failed to do so made him to cause an accident and in
so doing he ended up causing an accident. Sometimes the police lights without the siren are
not always visible hence a siren is required to alert the people.
Benefits of suing officer Preston
I recommend that the Ann Arundel country should be sued because one of their police
officers caused an accident that caused harm to a motorist. It is important for the county to
ensure that they discipline their officers on the way in such a way that they will ensure that
they protect the people in the society as opposed to harming them.
The benefits of suing the Ann Arundel County is that the action will protect the people from
such incidences in the future. The police officers will be extra careful before making any
risky maneuver that could affect the lives of the other road users. The country is likely to take
up the role of training their officers on how they are supposed to behave on the road.
All people should be responsible for all the messes that they cause regardless of the position
that they hold in the society. The police officers have been given the chance to protect the
lives of the people as opposed to putting it at risk hence there is need to ensure they take good
care of them in the society.
