Project governance refers to the management programs and systems under which the project decisions are concluded (Alie, 2015). Project governance is significantly essential in any project development and implementation because it encourages accountability and responsibility to associate with the organization’s business activities and operations. For example, project governance advocates for organization project chart that provides useful direction and indication of who is responsible for specific tasks in the operational conducts. However, unless when the organization has developed a project governance policy, organization chart cannot exist. Therefore, project governance is an organizing concept in the operational project implementation that is used in the decision making. Project governance is a form of decision-making framework that portrays a logical, robotic and repeatable approach of organization governing in the capital investments (Muller, 2017).
According to the Project Management Institute (2013), project governance has a substantial impact on a single project, and its operations are firmly related to the work of a project manager. Project governance can be equated to an oversight function that is mandated on the project managers along with the governance model of the organization to support the project lifecycle. Project governance is influential in the implementation of a single project because it aligns with the organization governance to investigate and manage the environment of the project with the aim of ensuring right achievement of the project (Muller, 2017). On the other hand, project governance has a direct relationship with the project managers because it is involved in the monitoring and management of the organizational project plans. Since the project manager is responsible for the project’s life cycle, then he should embrace project governance model to ensure that the governance plan of the project is implemented throughout the process of the project development (Alie, 2015).
