It’s a critical time for LGBTQ persons at their respective work stations. The previous week, the Supreme Court heard submissions in cases challenging whether the nation’s workplace anti-discrimination acts safeguard that class of people (Noguchi, 2019). The presentations took place when several workplaces are adjusting to a growing number of people, amenably recognizing gender nonbinary. It insinuates that they don’t regard themselves firmly as female or male but instead prefer neutral-gender pronouns like “they,” to “she” or “he.” other employers are entrenching those likes on name identifiers and email signatures. But proprietors and employees are also piloting shifting social customs on gender that can be puzzling (Noguchi, 2019). Even though changing office traditions away from old-style gender identifiers may prove to be challenging.
Companies may be faced with a growing number of workers with nonbinary identities in the coming period. As a result of the significant prevalence of gender vagueness among the increasing population, Jody Herman asserted that, there is no precise study that has been undertaken to help identify the exact population of gender nonbinary persons (Noguchi, 2019). Like united airlines, several firms have had their policies adjusted to allow their clients to identify as nonbinary when procuring tickets.
The article relates to our team topic of sociology in the workplace. It presents the current occurrences at work like how the transgender and gender nonbinary for a very long time have been neglect and less recognized at workplaces. The article also depicts how firms adjust to the changing societal norms like recognition of gender nonbinary people (Tausing, 2011). It also presents how the changing traditions may impact future generations.
I do agree that for many occasions, transgender and gender nonbinary people faced discrimination and neglect. For society to accept them with open arms, more civic education should be done to erode stereotype notions.
