One questions that many people ask is whether the government should take up the initiative of
making sure that all the people in society eat a healthy diet. People in society have access to the
necessary information that should enable them to understand the kinds of foods that they are
supposed to eat. However, most of them do not follow the dietary guidelines that have been put
in place by the researchers due to several reasons that range from financial difficulties to the
nature of the people in the society. What we eat determines out heath because the nutrients that
the body requires are contained in the food that we take. Any person who keeps a good diet is
likely to have good health compared to the one who does not.
The food that we eat gives our bodies the necessary instructions and requirements that are
needed for our body to function well. In the case where the body receives the wrong portion of
the nutrients, then the metabolic processes are likely to be affected negatively. The wrong
portions and proportions of food may lead to malnutrition, overweight and underweight. It may
also expose the body to many risks of getting diseases. Some medical conditions such as
diabetes, hypertension, marasmus among many other diseases are likely to affect an individual in
the case where the food that he or she takes is not good, or it is not nutritious enough.
Food in the body enables the cells to perform their basic and complicated functions effectively;
hence, they are very important for the physical functioning of the body. There is a connection
between the food that the people in society take and diseases. The society is currently facing
many health problems. The united states of America rank ninth in life expectancy among the
developed nations that are in the world. The workplaces are plagued with absenteeism and
reduced productivity because of diseases that could be prevented if the people would focus on
getting good nutrition. The other problems are the fact that 78% of the money that is spent on
healthcare is used in the treatment of diseases that could be prevented by good nutrition. Most
researchers believe that the problems that have been named above are partly related to the diet
that the patients take. Some of the diseases such as obesity, cancers, type II diabetes, heart
diseases and stroke were associated with the mutation in cells. However, the researchers are now
attributing the diseases to a network of biological dysfunction. The food that is taken by the
people is very important in the said dysfunction in part because we take diets that lack the
important nutrients that are required for our body to function effectively. To deal with the
dysfunctions, it is important to understand how the nutrients in the body interact and affect the
functions in the bodies of human beings ("How Does Food Impact Health?," n.d.).
Functional medicine is an important way in which nutrition is used to assess the cause of the
diseases and what is supposed to be done to deal with the said diseases for the benefit of society.
One of the most important components of functional medicine is to assess the impact that the diet
has when it comes to causing diseases or protecting the body against it. The medical practitioners
look at the multiple body systems when they assess the effect that nutrition has in the
development of the diseases in the bodies of human beings. The body systems that are assessed
include the digestive system, the immune system and the detoxification system since the systems
are related. For instance, the digestive system is related to the immune systems. It, therefore,
means that any person who might be having problems with the immune system may be having a
challenge in the digestive system. The medical practitioners note that chronic diseases are caused
by a decline in the health of the individual as a result of the failure of a given system in the body.
The practitioners are therefore doing their best to identify the symptoms early enough before it is
too late as a way of dealing with the diseases. One of the solutions that are provided by
functional nutrition is to identify the kind of nutritional deficiency that is causing the disease and
recommending the foods and supplements that the patients should be used as a way of protecting
themselves from the disease. Cardiovascular diseases are associated with the nutritional intake
of the people in the society. It is important to note that multiple causes might cause one disease
and one underlying dysfunction may lead to the development of multiple diseases ("How Does
Food Impact Health?," n.d.).
In conclusion, the food that we eat has a big impact on the lives that we live, which calls for the
people to be aware of what we eat. The food is required in good portions and proportions to
ensure that the body has the right type of nutrition at the time when it is needed. Research has to
be conducted that will provide results on the foods that are supposed to be eaten by the people.
The other problem faced is the case where the people eat food that has not been produced
properly. Some of the agricultural products are not good for our health because of the way they
have been produced ("How Does Food Impact Health?," n.d.).
