Overview of the film
Wind rises is a film that has been set in the Japanese culture written by Hayao Miyazaki. It was
animated by Studio Ghibli for the Napoleon television network, Dentsu. The film was adopted
from Tatsuo Hori as well as the life of Jiro Horikoshi. It was the last film that Miyazaki directed
before he made a decision to retire. However, the director then decided to move of retirement
and directed another film. Young Hiro Horokishi has the desire of becoming a pilot but his sight
makes it hard for him to succeed in his quest. He then reads about Giovanni Battista Caproni
who is a famous Italian aircraft designer and later sees him in his dream. Caproni tells him that
despite the fact that he has made many planes in his life, he has never driven one in his life. Five
years Later Jiro travels by train to Tokyo to study aeronautical engineering at the Tokyo Imperial
University then he meets a young girl, Naoko Satomi as she travels with her maid. The worst
happens and that is the occurrence of the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 which leads to the
fracture of Naoko’s family. Jiro then displays his act of kindness and caries her to the Naoko’s
family without introducing himself. Jiro then graduated with his friend, Kiro Honjo and
coincidentally, they are both employed at the aircraft manufacturer Mitsubishi. Jiro then rises
through the ranks and becomes one of the greatest aircraft designers. He at some point designs a
plane that was used in the World War II but Japan loses the war while using the aircraft. Jiro then
regrets the fact that he designed a plane that was used in the war.
How the movie talks about culture
The movie talks about the Japanese culture, their way of life and the things that they like doing.
Through the movie, it is easier to note that Japanese value the train as one of their preferred way
of travelling from one place to the other. One other notable thing is the fact that the Japanese
people love kindness and that is why Jiro helps the maid during the earthquake and does not
want his name to be known after performing the act of kindness. The sound tracks that are used
in the movie also portray something to do with the Japanese culture. One notable thing is the
fact that the Japanese love music and it is used both for the purposes of entertainment and for the
purposes of education. The attire of the people in the movie also has a touch o Japanese culture
since one is able to note the traditional Japanese attire that is used in the movie. The cultural
aspect of the movie is important because it teaches the people on the importance of culture and
also gives them a sense of belonging. Many people are likely to fall in love with the movie
because it is a depiction of their way of life and will educate them on the way they are supposed
to live their lives as per the setting of the culture where the movie was set.
The movie is both entertaining and educative. It encourages the people to follow their careers
and ensure that they succeed. It also shows the fact that there are some cases where people will
face failure and they have to deal with them for the betterment of their lives in the society. A
good movie should be able to both educate and entertain the people. I think that the directors of
the movie managed to appeal to the audience as they ought to.
